Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art rooted in grappling and ground combat, with a focus on securing dominant positions and applying joint locks or chokeholds to achieve submission. It follows the concept that a smaller or physically weaker person can effectively defend against a larger and stronger attacker through the use of leverage, technique, and strategic movement.
The main advantage of a larger opponent lies in strength and reach—both of which are neutralized once the fight transitions to the ground. BJJ teaches numerous techniques to take an opponent down using hip and shoulder-driven throws and drags.
Once on the ground, practitioners use precise control to transition their opponent into vulnerable positions to execute submission holds. A key characteristic of BJJ is the ability to gain and maintain control, whether from the guard position (on the bottom) or by passing the guard to secure dominant top positions such as side control, mount, and back control.
Most submissions fall into two main types: joint locks and chokes. Joint Locks, which involve isolating a limb and forcing a joint beyond its natural range. Chokeholds, which restrict airflow or blood circulation, resulting in a tap-out (submission)
We offer foundational training modules in no-gi Jiu-Jitsu, grappling, and ground-fighting techniques.
