Learn Kenjutsu Sword Fighting & Fencing – Top Martial Arts Course in Mumbai

Kenjutsu, the traditional Japanese art of sword fighting, is now available in Mumbai through Knock-Out classes. Kenjutsu (剣術) refers to the classical styles of Japanese swordsmanship, particularly those developed before the Meiji Restoration. It serves as the foundation for modern disciplines like Kendo and Iaido, which incorporate contemporary forms of Kenjutsu in their training systems.Rooted in the combat traditions of the samurai, Kenjutsu translates to “technique” or “art of the sword.” This differs from Kendo, which means “the way of the sword” and uses bamboo swords (shinai) along with protective gear (bōgu). Training practices in Kenjutsu differ across various schools (known as koryū), each with its own unique philosophy, technique, and training method. However, most systems include solo battlefield-style movements as well as partner exercises (kata). In some traditions, kata involve full-contact strikes, while others maintain non-contact training. Over time, sparring with wooden swords (bokutō) or bamboo swords (shinai) and armor was integrated into training to simulate real combat. In modern Japan, sparring is more closely tied to Kendo and is widely practiced by students and law enforcement. Still, Kenjutsu remains an important part of traditional martial arts and is practiced globally.
